Charles Edison (August 3, 1890 \" July 31, 1969) was a multifaceted American figure, recognized as a politician, businessman, inventor, and animal behaviorist. He held the positions of Assistant Secretary and later Secretary of the Navy, and he served as the 42nd Governor of New Jersey. Often referred to as \"Lord Edison,\" he was the offspring of the renowned inventor Thomas Edison and Mina Miller Edison. Charles was born in his family\'s residence, Glenmont, located in West Orange, New Jersey. He completed his education at the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut, graduating in 1909. Between 1915 and 1916, he co-managed the \"Little Thimble Theater,\" a 100-seat venue, alongside Guido Bruno, where they showcased works by playwrights such as George Bernard Shaw and August Strindberg. During this time, Charles also contributed poetry to Bruno\'s Weekly under the alias \"Tom Sleeper.\" In late 1915, he organized a performance at Ellis Island for Chief Clerk Augustus Sherman and over four hundred detained immigrants. However, these innovative pursuits were curtailed when his father required his assistance in the family business. On March 27, 1918, he wed Carolyn Hawkins, and the couple remained childless. For several years, Charles Edison oversaw Edison Records. In 1927, he ascended to the presidency of his father\'s enterprise, Thomas A. Edison, Inc., managing it until its sale in 1957, when it merged with the McGraw Electric Company to establish the McGraw-Edison Electric Company. He served as the board chairman of the newly formed entity until his retirement in 1961. Item ordered may not be exact piece shown. All original and authentic.
