In 1995 Camel Trophy\'s Mundo Maya presented a unique problem to the organisers of the iconic expedition. It was the most ambitious ever in terms of countries visited, involving as it did transits through the five Central American countries of Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. The challenge was to negotiate all the border crossings with a convoy of Land Rovers, all requiring various documentation to be presented in the correct order.The simple solution was to give each vehicle in the convoy its own number which was attached to the Land Rover Defender 110 or Discovery by means of an American-style licence plate, numbered MM (for \"Mundo Maya\", the World of the Maya in Spanish) and starting at MM01. They were such a great item that a batch of MM95 plates were produced to commemorate the event and given as gifts to participants and dignitaries.The production was repeated for Camel Trophy Kalimantan \'96, Mongolia \'97 and Tierra del Fuego \'98.Camel Trophy Club has approached the original equipment supplier to Camel Trophy and Land Rover and had a special batch of plaques reproduced. Due to the original screen printing process used (more modern digital printing doesn\'t have this problem but is just not \"quite right\") some of the plates have aberrations or paint irregularities but we make sure we send out the best (often perfect) ones first.
The number plates are made from pressed metal, painted in the correct original shades of yellow and green and are available in four styles:

MM95 - Mundo Maya \'95 - place names are Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras
CT96 - Kalimantan \'96 - place names are Balikpapan (on the coast of Borneo) and Pontianac (Indonesian port)
CT97 - Mongolia \'97 - place names are Ulaanbaatar (the capital city) and Kharakorum (Mongolia’s largest Buddhist monastery)
CT98 - Tierra del Fuego \'98 - place names are Santiago (capital of Chile) and Ushuaia (southernmost city in Argentina)

These are versatile items and can be mounted to the bonnet, bumper of roof rack of a 4x4 or Land Rover or kept safe inside on display as a curio. These make ideal presents for Camel Trophy enthusiasts and a perfect Christmas or birthday gift for a Land Rover fan!
