For your consideration, we are offering for sale this vintage circa 1953 Sheaffer Statesman model Snorkel Fountain Pen & Pencil Set in the scarce Peacock Blue color with a Palladium Silver conical Fine nib. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful operating and writing condition.
This fountain pen & pencil cap and barrel are in very good condition with no chips, cracks, teeth marks, or repairs. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. The barrel is stamped on both the fountain pen and pencil with, \"W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO. FORT MADISON, IOWA U.S.A. MADE IN U.S.A.\" This Sheaffer Snorkel fountain pen measures 5 1/2\" in length capped and 6 1/2\" posted. The pencil measures 5 1/8\" inches in length.
I have ultrasonically cleaned the Fountain Pen NIB, section, feed, and tube. Hand-polished the cap and nib. There is no brassing or wear to the cap or the gold-filled clip and cap banding on either the fountain pen or pencil. I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel, cap, and blind cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the material of the fountain pen. I installed a new rubber sac, o-ring, and point seal - all have been replaced with the correct reproduction parts. This Sheaffer Pen has been disassembled, cleaned, and inspected for any defects before reassembling. The snorkel tube moves freely and draws ink as it should.
The Palladium Silver NIB has a Fine point measuring roughly .54mm when measured with digital calipers. The NIB writes with a fine line/stroke. In the writing sample provided, this NIB stroke measures roughly .53mm to .57mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Blue Ink.
The Touchdown filling system has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned/restored, put back together, and added a dab of pure silicone to the Touchdown filling system for ease and smooth operational use. The filling system now has perfect suction and works flawlessly. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it should.
The pencil is in working condition as it will repel lead as it was designed to. I have a stick of lead in the pencil (.90mm) and added a gently used eraser.
This set comes in the original Sheaffer Snorkel box which is in fair condition. Minor staining with no tears to the satin lining.
This Sheaffer Snorkel Set in the High-Cachet Peacock Blue Color is in ready-to-write condition or just add it to your writing arsenal collection. I would consider this Sheaffer Snorkel Set to easily grade in Very Fine to Excellent Condition.
