ORIGINAL 2004 C DAWN DAVIS (b 1948) 'A PAIR OF KINGS' PAINTING
This is just a great original piece. I bought this painting as part of a collection of Contemporary art from a dealer in New York. I dont often by Contemporary art but this painting is just so good, I really wanted to own it. Done by C Dawn Davis, there is scant biographical information about the artist out there. She has been a part of exhibitions and had some of her own exhibitions since the early 21st Century but I dont find a complete biography like I would think there should be. Her work does come to sale and if you look at the trends, her work is becoming more and more appreciated. I have included the best example of a biography I have found below. Of all the works I have seen of hers on the internet and on the sale sites, this is one of the best. A stunning fantasy like view of a queen like woman sitting with her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel on her lap and holding a king playing card. The background is this dark ethereal red with windows looking out to a rocky landscape. Really a stunning painting. Oil on panel measuring 20 x 14 inches. Signed lower right. Excellent as painted condition. The only issue at all is there is just some slight silver paint rubbing along the far left margin where it meets the frame. The frame itself is a work of art. Wonderful silver and maroon gothic elaborate frame. The frame measures 25 3/4 x 19 3/4 and sticks out nearly 4 inches from the wall. On the back of the painting it is signed, dated, and titled in the artist's hand in marker. Really just a wonderful complete presentation of this stunning painting. The total package. She combines elements of surrealism, fantasy art, Victorian photography, symbolist painting, and Hollywood baroque to tell stories uniquely her own"
