This is a thorough look at the issue of contraception in the United States featured in a complete 1934 issue of Harper’s Magazine! This includes a great inside article titled \"BIRTH CONTROL AND THE DEPRESSION\" by DOROTHY DUNBAR BROMELY. This is an excellent piece that looks at the societal issue of contraception. The social and financial aspects, the juxtaposition of Depression era welfare and unwanted children, the medical experts and the government rules governing contraception, figures such as Margaret Sanger and Father Charles Coughlin, the Church and also some discussion of abortion… It is a good twelve-page article! Harper’s in this era was dedicated to text articles. There are advertising sections in the front and back. The magazine measures 9 5/8 inches X 6 5/8 inches… This is a wonderful time capsule. It is in nice shape. Typical vintage edge and corner wear. This does have various rubber stampings from a Carnegie Library… Not mint but gently read. It’s great piece FOR THE COLLECTOR!
