(In 1917, the United States intervened in Cuba after a disputed Cuba presidential election and armed rebellion.

On August 25, 1917, the first contingent of US Marines arrived in Cuba to train in a warm climate. The Marines were responsible for sugar plantation infrastructure, and patrolled the countryside to keep the plantations safe.)

(Battle of San Juan Hill, was the most significant U.S. land victory, and one of the final battles, of the Spanish-American War. It occurred on July 1, 1898.)
