(In 1917, the United States intervened in Cuba after a disputed Cuba presidential election and armed rebellion.

On August 25, 1917, the first contingent of US Marines arrived in Cuba to train in a warm climate. The Marines were responsible for sugar plantation infrastructure, and patrolled the countryside to keep the plantations safe.)
