Dating to the mid-19th century, this exquisitely crafted piece of metalwork stands approximately 7” in height on a base measuring 4.5” in diameter with a rolled lip opening to 6” in diameter. Decorated in detailed relief are various Egyptian objects and animals; the Sphinx, pyramids, sun gods, birds, elephants, jackals, and palm trees. In beautiful condition, there are no serious dents, corrosion, prior repairs, or other compromising imperfections. A few spots of oxidation and areas of darkened patina are present which may polish out with gentle persistence. The brass is just gorgeous and polishes up to a clear and brilliant luster.
