Ancient Egyptian Miniature Amethyst Face Carving 2000 B C Gerald A Smith Estate:
$225.00
From the Gerald A Smith Estate. He was one of the founders of The Museum of Man in San Bernardino California. I purchased a group of bronze statuettes and other antiquities from his estate after his passing from his son Geoffrey Smith around 2010.A miniature amethyst face carving. probably made for a small statuette or a piece of jewelry. Measuring slightly over 5/16" long x 1/4" wide. It is small but it is a genuine ancient artifact from the Middle Kingdom Pharaonic Egypt. It is in excavated condition but very recognizable as a human face, I think that of a female. Amethyst was mined in eastern Egypt at Wadi el-Hudi for royalty, to be made into gifts for fairly important people at that time ( 2000-1700 B.C.) and was considered a royal gemstone. This would be an excellent piece to be mounted in a modern jewelry setting for a gift and you have Provenance.
