The medal is 1 inch hanging length, and it weighs 4 gramsof bronze.
John of the Cross (Spanish: Juan de la Cruz; born Juan deYepes y Álvarez; 24 June 1542 -- 14 December 1591), venerated as Saint John ofthe Cross, was a Spanish Catholic priest, mystic, and a Carmelite friar ofconverso origin. He is a major figure of the Counter-Reformation in Spain, andhe is one of the thirty- seven Doctors of the Church.
Teresa of Ávila, OCD (born Teresa Sánchez de Cepeda yAhumada; 28 March 1515 – 4 or 15 October 1582), also called Saint Teresa ofJesus, was a Spanish Carmelite nun and prominent Spanish mystic and religiousreformer.
Active during the Counter-Reformation, Teresa became thecentral figure of a movement of spiritual and monastic renewal, reforming theCarmelite Orders of both women and men. The movement was later joined by theyounger Spanish Carmelite friar and mystic John of the Cross, with whom sheestablished the Discalced Carmelites. A formal papal decree adopting the splitfrom the old order was issued in 1580.
