For sale is an Otodustooth. The Otodus was a large, pre-historicancestor to sharks like the Megalodon and the Great White Shark and is estimated to have been between 30feet – 40 feet long. This shark isbelieved to have existed during the, Eocene, Paleocene, and, Miocene eras. This tooth originates from Morocco.

The tooth itself measures about 2-2.5 inches long (5 to 6.35cm) long and may differ slightly fromwhat is pictured in the photos (each tooth is unique).

“Since the skeletons of sharks are composed ofbiodegradable cartilage rather than longer-lasting bone, often times the onlyfossil evidence of prehistoric species consists of teeth (sharks grow and shedthousands of teeth during their lifetimes, which is why they're so abundant inthe fossil record). (This is not to diminish Otodus' own place inthe record books; this prehistoric shark was at least one and one-half times asbig as the biggest Great White Sharks alive today.) Paleontologists haveestablished this evolutionary link by examining the similarities between thesetwo sharks' teeth; specifically, the teeth of Otodus show early hints of theflesh-ripping serrations that would later characterize the teeth of Megalodon.”
