The Air Force today released details on this thin, four-inch square panel containing 36 thermoelectric elements, which is a small part of the payload on one of the secret satellites it has been launching from the Pacific Missile Range. The Air Force said the panel is an improvement over the solar cells currently used to convert sunlight into electricity for power for instruments on spacecraft. It is designed to be more resistant to the high altitude radiations which have damaged solar cells in the past.Photo measures 8 x 10.25inches. Photo is dated 02-15-1963.
