This is no leak -- it is friendly, fire-smothering carbon dioxide gas pouring out of ceiling nozzles to protect precious fur coats hanging in a storage vault. The non-poisonous gas, which damages nothing it touches, is released automatically from high-pressure storage cylinders when the first warning drift of heated air touches a special heat detector. At the same time, the gas automatically shuts off ventilating blowers and closes louvers between floors. This same \"fireproof\" storage warehouse was the scene of a disastrous fire which destroyed $3,000,000 worth of furs a year ago. Now, guarded 24 hours a day by this modern fireman, the furs have nothing to fear from our number one saboteur. Walter Kidde & Company, who designed this newest protection for the minks and sables which are not easily replaced today have also harnessed the same gas in many ingenious ways to save the lives of our men on all the battle fronts -- as a fire-extinguisher in planes, ships and tanks, and to inflate rubber life-rafts, lifebelts and aviators\' \"Mae West\" jackets.Photo measures 9 x 7.75inches. Photo is dated 12-15-1944. PHOTO FRONT
