This is a very unusual and historicAntique Old 19th c. Persian Jewish Judaica Folk Art Circumcision Oil Painting on canvas, depicting the traditional circumcision \"bris\" of a young boy by a religious authority. I\'ve been told that the person holding the child is the maternal uncle, and the boy\'s mother and father are standing off to the sides, attempting to distract the boy with various toys. This work likely dates to the late 19th - early 20th century, and there is evidence that it was mounted on stretcher bars at some point in the past. This piece is signed in Farsi in the lower right corner, perhaps you recognize the artist or their work? This painting possibly came out of an old Persian synagogue and was taken out of the country after the Shah was deposed and the Ayatollah come to power. The painted area of the canvas is approximately 27 1/4 x 38 1/4 inches. Good condition for age, with some expected paint loss, crease marks, and a small tear to the upper right corner of the canvas (please see photos.) This work was found rolled up in an old trunk and came out of an abandoned storage locker in Los Angeles, California. This unusual artwork is a rare piece of Persian history and is not to be missed.
