THAT ISN'T THE HALF OF IT.


  1. The Blue Ridge mountains are bluish because massive summed isoprene emissions from conifers render the air so smoggy that the EPA would have an Official (fine-levying) $billion hissy fit if it were a city.

  2. Isoprene directly contributes to ozone formation. The ozone then reacts with more isoprene, opening up new reaction channels.

  3. Ozonolysis of isoprene gets you formaldehyde (EPA priority carcinogen) and pyruvic aldehyde.

    H2C=C(CH3)-CH=CH2 --> H2C=O + H3C-C(=O)-CH(=O) + O=CH2

    Pyruvic aldehyde peroxidizes with oxygen to the peracid. Peracids react with isoprene to give you the diepoxide (dialkylating carcinogen)

    H2C=C(CH3)-CH=CH2 --> H2C[epoxide]C(CH3)-CH[epoxide]CH2

    and then the non-volatile hygroscopic tetraol by hydrolysis,

    H2C(OH)-C(OH)(CH3)-C(OH)H-CH2OH

    that elicits incredible visible smog by forming micrsocopic droplets of water solution via humidity that won't evaporate and won't settle.

  4. All natural, too

      Enviro-whiners don't tell you about that crap. Any time sunshine warms a conifer forest, all chemical Hell breaks loose. If you vaporize stinkum "deodorizers" in your home, you lungs are getting
      eaten. Your Nanny State knows about it, and laughs right in your face.
