Re: How is matter glued together ? (thierryk)

Chemistry is held together by the electromagnetic interaction playing by quantum mechanics' rules. Forces are transmitted by virtual vector bosons; stuff is fermions. The combination elegantly keeps stuff together without its collapsing into degenerate matter.

The fun is over when you get enough stuff accumulated that gravitation wins (Schwarzschild radius). Since gravitation is only attractive and cannot be shielded, gravitation will always win. Crunch.
