I think the people of the USA are ignorant, unknowing, unaware, oblivious, uninformed, misinformed, misled, simple, naive, backward, and clueless, especially when it comes to international affairs. I think when it comes to politicians we are dangerously close to what Lenin described as "the cult of the individual". He was of course referring to Joseph Stalin.

But politics is about power, and political power is a great sucking hole that draws power and money to itself illimitably. Politics necessarily attracts to it people who desire to possess wealth and use power, especially if they belong to someone else. There is no headier feeling for some people than to be in control of other people's money and lives, they tell me. This type of person tends to have a view on things like ethics and morals that is very self-centered and self-serving, with somewhat shifting boundaries that are at times difficult to pin down. It is little wonder that we wind up with Roosevelts, Clintons, Nixons, Kennedys. The machinery that got these people elected basically created for each a cult of the individual, relying on their charm, charisma, comeliness and appeal to the masses more than their proven ability to lead, knowledge of foreign and domestic policy and affairs, or posession of a workable plan for governing all citizens fairly and equally.

I think GW Bush and Governor Schwartzenegger both fall into this category as well. Mr. Schwartenegger's charisma and charm are so great that I have even heard of rumors of people suggesting that the US Constitution be amended so as to do away with the requirement that a president be born an American citizen, in order that he might run for president. I personally find this frightening. I have no desire to live in the Bavarian Principality of the Former United States.

But that is my opinion, and I'm very opinionated.
