Even "just" taking the dorsal fin is lethal. It's like amputating a foot; it leaves you very unstable, and it doesn't grow back. According to some reports the sharks bleed to death.

Sharks have remained unchanged for millions of years becuase they are so very well suited for their environment. How would humans fare if suddenly they were to be preyed upon by some creature that only amputated their hands?
