Re: Feo2: Time's 100 most influencial people. (Jean Pierre)

Politicans are not my cup of tea. Talking to or associating with politicians ranks on my list of favorite activities right in the same vicinity as skinny dipping in a pool of hot magma or rolling naked in nettles followed by being lovingly caressed with blowtorches.

My definition of "oxymoron" is "honest politician". There hasn't been one since the age of Diogenes.

A politician is a vast, endlessly sucking hole into which power and money are drawn in infinite quantities. These serve as a positive feedback loop; the more power and money they have the more they attract.

Politicians generate more meanings per word than all the dictionary publishers combined, while at the same time reducing the substance of a word to nothing.

I can count on the fingers of one thumb all the good that has been done to me by a politician. I can fill a coal train with the bad. POliticians tell my phone company how much they can charge me for long distance carriers, decree how much sales tax I pay and on what items, where I may buy alcoholic beverages and at what age and on what days of the week, and tell my physician what drugs he may prescribe for my ailments of which they know nothing and care less.

The only thing politicians are remotely useful for is on a cold winter night when the furnace goes out, they can heat a house if you can get three or four of them to stand in the furnace well and debate. It's easy to get them to debate. All you have to do is ask some intelligent question like "How many weapons of mass destruction should we have found in Iraq?" or "Should we fund more nuclear missile warheads?" YOu must avoid asking questions like, "Why is there so much waste in government?" or "How much money should we be spending for basic research?", or they will be rendered speechless. This will result in your pipes freezing, of course. The hard part is getting the right mixture of politicians for the reaction to work. I find one conservative, two liberals and one religious fundamentalist works pretty well and keeps the house nice and toasty. Too many politicians, or the wrong mix, will result in overheating or failure to heat at all. Too hot a mixture has been known to cause house fires. All things considered, it's probably better to keep your furnace maintained in proper working order.
