Re: Feo: Monsanto, very upset with New Scientist. (Mike Kremer)

I'm not sure where your post was going, but to reiterate, I've got no problem with us needing plants and vice versa. I've got no problem with GM food.

In fact, I've got no problem with irradiated foods either.

What raises my eyebrows is not GM foods, but food genetically modified, NOT to be more nutritious, or even to repell parasites and other invaders in some natural way (like being less susceptible), but soley created and using strong arm marketing tactics to bring a germinating plant into the ecosystem for the sole purpose of selling more poison. That's the raisen deeter for Round-Up corn and other crops. "Sell more poison, spray more poison, and we will vigorously protect our patented, proprietary genome."

A number of people I would otherwise consider intelligent, put on the blinkers, shut down their critical/skeptical thinking, and all but bestow sainthood to Monsanto simply because they are working in the genetics field.

Well whoop dee freakin' doo.

Monsanto didn't do all of this to move humanity forward or to nobly feed the starving masses.

And I've got no problem with any company tampering with food genes to make one buck or a billion. But in the free market place, I get to choose what I want to eat and what I want to buy. If you want to sell me your product, it had better be good for me, and not simply be more resistant to the heavy doses of poison saturating it.
