Now...any thoughts on "Part B" of the problem?
Say each ball is moved an inch off track as it rolls past the magnet. That means work (force times distance)is being performed. Work requires energy.
If each ball bearing weighed one ounce, and you rolled a million of them (assuming the magnet was truly permanent), that's over 520 MILLION foot-pounds of work! (Equivalent to moving a 520 million pound object one foot.)
If the law of the conservation of energy applies, where is the energy coming from?
