I guess I've given offense again. I'd have said "Vernal Equinox", but (a) it's past and (b) nobody would have known what I was talking about.
Perhaps we ought to agree on names for "holidays" in advance. I think the next one coming up is "Cinquo de Mayo", Which we might call "Hellman's Day" in the US, but that might not ring any bells for those in other countries. Mexican Indepedence Day might be considered by some as not being PC enough.
Similarly, "Mother's Day" might need reworking. How about "Honor Your Female Ancestor Day", or "HYFA Day" for short. Nice, pronounceable, avoids the negative connotations of the word "Mother" completely.
Then in June it would be time for "Honor Your Male Ancestor Day" or "HYMA Day". I can just hear it. I can just see people buying and sending HYMA Day cards and agonizing over what to get Dad for HYMA Day.
I swear it's not my fault; it's the pain meds that are making me do this. I never thought I'd see the day that I was actually looking forward to an appointment with an oral surgeon to get a tooth yanked! :-(
