Fools Game

To play a top game of Bridge
You remember what's played, plus what's bid
but to watch the cards fall
playing Poker and all
They will throw you right out on your lid!

If the numbers simply do not add up
and you discuss it, over a cup
The person in error?
you'll be the wearer!
But is it better, to simply shut up?

And to propose an exchange is to barter
In theory, this thinking is smarter
but the tax man gets mad
and now you are bad
and makes you out to be some sort of martyr!

If you learn something of great import,
and you write up and submit a report,
they simply won't print it
for the truth that is in it
so choose humor and prose, last resort!

When you have an original thought
write it down, back up, start to talk
No one wants to hear it
'cause they didn't rear it
So they do it - write you out, with black chalk ...

And should you actually discover a cure
they will throw you in goal (jail), my dear
you have not the credentials
so must be far too simple
even dangerous, it would appear.

There are those whom believe they are real
when, in fact, know not yet, how to 'feel'
by their letters, they trade
or the money they've made
It's their judgements I often appeal.

Yet If you point the finger of blame
thus far, that's the name of the game
even if it has merit
go ahead, if you dare, it
could cost you your life or your name.

And we all used to know there was God
now, which one (or none), merits their nod
using war to keep peace
while dis-eases increase
What about all of this seems so odd.

Pray tell, if you live what you teach!
You put yourself right out of reach
of those whom believe
faith is just for the sleeve
or hate the mirror, of themselves, base-relief.

Quite simply, if you're born quite bright
some will always try dimming your light
Your direct threat, by measure,
looks, talent or just clever
are at odds, which we know isn't right.

What gives with this back to front world
when reason nor common sense rule?
Are morals and ethics
just real in myth epics?
So who do you think plays the fool?
