"one day I discovered that if I over tightened the neck screw of my instrument a certain way, it played much more responsive. I intially thought it was because there was an air leak, but when I used slicone at the joint ther was absolutely no chage."
First of all, what instrument are you talking about?I am no expert in musical instruments, but at this moment I am inclined either towards a guitar,or,much more likely, towards some air flow/column instrument.Trumpet,zug-trombone and the likes excluded, since they have no neck screw whatsoever.Sounds more like a clarinet, oboe,or sax.
Second of all, what exactly do you understand by responsiveness?
"my problem is this only works once because it totally deforms the neck inside the instrument. what factors made such a change? Please help!!!!!"
Well, you just named the cause. The deformation of the neck. But if you want more details,it would be a rather good ideea for you to provide some more details, don't you think?
