Re: Biological (Medical) Creationism (Kathy)

It sounds to me as if the author is arguing from a position of disbleief.

Are we supposed to believe that just because no one has yet determined how kidney cells "sense" the oxygen threshold required for erythropoietin release, that no chemo-physiological explanation exists?

And just who is this intelligent designer supposed to be: Klatuu?

One can only imagine the state of human health if scientists of the past had put down undiscovered mechanisms to simplistic "intelligent design" and moved on. I doubt that even half of the knowledge imparted in the article would have been available to Glicksman if everyone was willing to accept his unscientific concepts of "irreducible complexity" and intelligent design.

Using complex mammalian organisms to make a point about life origins is absurd. Perhaps
Glicksman would like to explain the intelligent design behind the recurved human spine and the lack of adequate, universal melanin production to completely eliminate melanoma. How about the failure of the interatrial foramen ovale to completely close following many births? Is this an example of "intelligent" design. Perhaps Glicksman would argue that only some parts of the human form are intelligently designed whereas other were designed "unintelligently."

Perhaps he would also care to explain how faltworms survive without cardiovascular, lymphatic, urinary, or respiratory systems. Why wouldn't an intelligent designer bestow these "gifts" upon these worthy creatures? Perhaps that question is too damn philosophical, eh?

No one understands how some cancer cells are able to avoid detection and/or destruction by NK lymphocytes and go on to develop into malignant tumors. Nor do we completely understand what specific changes in DNA result in the development of tumors in a wide variety of tissues. Should we just put it down to intelligent design (or should it be malicious intelligent design) and move on?
