Sigh. Not shark meat, Skates and rays.

In some barbaric, uncivilized parts of the world (note I do not hold up the US as particularly civilized) Rays are caught and disks of tissue are removed from their fins for sale as "scallops". Some of these creatures so recover, as there have been some caught with healed-over holes in their fins, but it can't do them any good.

Skates for scallops

Mussels are bivalves that cling to available marine surfaces by marvelously tough fibers they excrete/secrete. They are orange fleshed and most closely resemble oysters and clams. They are black on the outside, and the inside has beautiful blue-tinted mother-of-pearl that somewhat resembles Abalone. They have nothing to do with scallops at all, other than being fellow bivalves. Mussels are eaten in their entirety like oysters and clams; scallops are prized for their thick shell-closing muscle.

Anyone with a whit of sense would realize the difference between mussel and muscle. If you're into PDI's, go for it. Otherwise you might get your facts in order to avoid libel.
