Usnic acid. It has been known since Neolithic times both Old World and New World that wool dyed with lichen extracts (bright red through browns) is wholly impervious to wool moth larvae.

The lichen in question is unanchored and accumulates in windblown drifts, offering winter food for resistant populations. Compare with adult European toleration of dairy products and alcohol vs. Asians.

Animals can run from predators, plants can only poison them. Eat meat.
