Oil crisis: Closer than we think?

Have a look at this Peak Oil and check out all the links in the page.

The question is: Based on the info, how would we know if we have passed "Hubbard's Peak"? Considering U.S.'s aggressive attitude towards oil, eg Alaska and Irak. I don't think it is crazy to say it is closer than we think.
