See if you can't find some information on the rise in incidence of childhood leukemia deaths and the increased incidence of certain kinds of birth defects and cancers among the people who sparsely populated the Nevada deserts at the time thoses tests were being done. Then think about what it would have been like if they'd been conducted near a major population center like New York or LA.

One percent of a bucket of fire from hell is still fire from hell, sir. I'd like to think we could be able to contain it and use it safely. I'm just hoping the epitaph of life on this planet won't read that we irradiated ourselves right out of a place to live.
