There are some major technical problems with beaming power down from space using microwaves. One of them is to concentrate the energy into a beam that is tight enough so that you won't fry everything for miles around the receiving site. A .1 degree beam width would have a 3 dB width of over 400 miles (if I didn't miss a decimal place somewhere). The 3 dB width means that the power at that point is 1/2 of the power in the middle of the beam. So an awful lot of the power would be outside that 3 dB width.
