Duality is too simplistic.
Consider the ethical standard "it is wrong to tell a lie". Is it? In all circumstances? Of course not.
Consider the ethical standard "it is wrong to end someone else's life". Is it? In all circumstances? Of course not. In fact we have separate words, kill and murder, to distinguish between the two.
Ethical standards in reality, not those simplistic Boolean ethics taught to children and clung to by religious zealots, are not an ON-OFF switch. They are the mixer on a stereo where one adjusts various levers in an attempt to achieve a balance.
The desired end-point being an optimal outcome for the society even if it is not the optimal outcome for the individual.
