Re: himlayan glaciers (yogeo)

Cute pun.

How about studying the Bacteriology of glacier melt? Looking for organisms that favor life in extreme environments is a "hot" topic, whether it is cold, hot (I know a person who studies thermophiles in Yellowstone National Park evey year), barophiles (extreme depths, high pressures) and of course there is the ongoing controversy over the possibility of a biological origin of petroleum.

One might examine the process of life colonizing the exposed surface as the glacier retreats, also, noting, starting from the bacterial point of view upward, what species establish first and what others appear in what order. Could be interesting.
