Re: Poverty a subject (Kelly)

"At first you insisted you weren't being insulting but now you've changed your mind and decided to be even more insulting."

You insisted and I obliged...

"Cool! I've wounded your pride and you're getting mad. That's an important first step, Pasti. You'll get steadily angrier, and thereby more entertaining."

Ah, you ar attempting to use psychology...How veruy delightful.

"Just because I mentioned that I like to read the science sites you think that means there's a "high probability" that I use them the most? Really?"

Well, let me see.You will hardly hear or see two physicists, or say nanotechnologtists, or scientists in general discussing the latest in their field based on BBC or Agogo for that matter. For you this aspect might be obscure, but it says a lot about your sources. You just lack the practice to understand it.

"I understand that you think that statement supports your argument but to toss out such random speculation so authoritatively as though you'd done a study of the probabilities and had..well...anything to back it up. You should be proud!"

Boy,you are thick.Just because you are not capable of understanding does not make something impossible. As I said, Psychology 101.You might want to try it.

"Seriously, a little proof reading first, Pasti. It distracts from your ravings."

I apologize for the typos. But you got the message, despite my errors.

"but I am glad that you were so enlightened to spot the hoax at once."

"What I did was what you are supposed to do: I reserved judgement. I didn't jump to conclusions or make wild assumptions based on virtually no evidence. (I believe that's refered to as "pulling a Pasti")."

I did reserve later judgement, you just didn't notice it, as you didn't notice several other things. As I said, do something about that inferiority complex of yours.

"You do? Congratulations! You can give her eulogy when she finally carries out her endless threats to kill herself. Assuming she's not just doing it for the attention."

Exactly how does that reserving judgement work in your case?

"I am a physicist, whether you like it or not," Pasti said defensively."

You are indeed very thick. It is not a defense,it is a fact.Reread the previous postm, and make an effort to understand the context.

"I just asked what you had done in the field, not what degree you had. I was looking for links to papers so I could see what area you'd actually contributed to."

Sweet innocence.Your interest was purely academic, how could I miss that.Boy, you are dumb.

"Actually I didn't say anything about what will or will not happen in nanotechnology."

You just don't get it, do you?You talked about nanotech, and the remarks you made were not the ones someone who worked in the field would make.Does this get through to you, or do I have to rephrase it to a more basic level?
It is the same I would expect you to notice about me if we talked about programming, that I might have some ideea about that, but definitely I am not what one would call a programmer.Does this help?

"I just said that the attitude of government and industry has gone through an amazing transformation in the last 20 years, from dismissing the idea that nanotechnology was even remotely possible to doing a complete 180 and being eager to invest in it. I made no statement of any kind about the technical details."

And you didn't understand my point either.I gave you verifiable tech details because I wanted you to be able to judge by yourself, at least roughly, why these 20 years are not amazing, but rather pitiful.Imbecility, at industrial or government level does not constitute an excuse. Not for me, anyway.

I believe you meant to say, "but you haven't shown it yet."

You got the point.

"They weren't interested earlier because they're never very interested in basic research for it's own sake. But the possibility of actual applications / products definitely got them going."

Very true. And yet, very sad, in my personal opinion.

"Another assumption. I've never said I'm content."

OK, but you ould have fooled me. Amazing changes in the last 20 years, as you call them definitely don't imply you are discontent.

"I'm sure if funding had been allocated differently and if politicians had been smarter things would happen faster. If wishes were fishes we'd all cast nets. So what?"

I will tell you so what.Among other things, think how many lives could have been spared, medically or otherwise, if things happened faster.Again, it kind of makes you sad.It makes me sad.
