""which is why I was mentioning it to Amaranth, who is suicidally depressed and sees nothing to look forward to. In other words I was trying to talk her out of killing herself."

Did it ever occur to you that you might have not understood? And maybe why? This time it is you who rushed the judgement.

You understood.

He didn't understand. Which is why he made that very smug, self-righteous, superior, condescending response of his that he made in the first place. He's very comfortable in his pinnacle of insularity, seeing nothing but from his well-cushioned comfort. He has no conception of what it is to be in shoes other than his own, to feel cold, or fear, or despair. He's never slept half-awake in the dark, listening in terror with bated breath for the sound of another human being and praying not to be discovered. One can't relate to what one has never felt.

Unfortunately arguing about obscenely stupid bureaucratic debacles does not make them go away, just like telling people they shouldn't feel frustrated and belligerent. Sometimes anger is logical and rational. Sometimes an act of outrageous courage is needed to alter the course of a bureaucracy's ponderous stupidity. Some people alter the world by their lives; others by their deaths. There is honor in both.
