Exactly. Linux will succede or fail as the marketplace determines. The way you'll know if Linux has actually become a real competitor for the OS market is when Microsoft comes out with MS Linux. Linux as it is right now just isn't ready for prime time. It's great fun for hackers and coders but that's all.
And don't let the Amaranth's and Pasti's cause you too much stress. Think of it as a psychological experiment. You can't use logic to talk someone out of their delusions.
