The Internet is a sort of Library, though I'm not at all sure it is any sort of Libary. It is an excellent research tool. It isn't the only tool you should have in your box but it is a fine one. Think of it as a crescent wrench as opposed to a set of fifty combination wrenches. Each has its uses but the crescent wears out the fastest.
Additionally, discussion forums are an excellent place to 'get started', if for no other reason than as a jump off point to Google with a few search terms you may not have considered. They are also a good place to get preliminary feedback on observations or conclusions -- especially for general topics.
For general high school level research topics, I’ll pick the internet over any school or public library ninety-nine times out of a hundred. Even on the hundredth time, I’d probably make use of the internet capabilities of that library. Just as I’d consider the crescent before the combinations.
