Women. A commodity of very little value always available in abundant supply. That's why the daughters were always sent out into the fields ahead of the water buffalo. You always protect your valuable livestock at the expense of your two-a-penny women. After all, you can farm without daughters; you can't without a water buffalo.
Just like you use your pawns to protect your more valuable pieces on the chess board.
Maybe someone will get interested in pelletizing the seed and broadcasting it through a boom using air pressure.
It's a thought.
