Seems that they're getting closer to identifying the root of the problem - engineers now believe that the Flash memory had some issue with the number of files being stored. Considering the number of images being gathered, and the fact that the longest Earth test was half the time Spirit has already been on Mars, I can believe it. If this is indeed the problem, it seems like a slam-dunk to sidestep it with Opportunity, and relatively easy to just delete some of Spirit's files and get it back in working order. More kudos for NASA here.
