I'd have to agree with Mike, Al and Chris. That looks really like an Aeolian landscape to me. The fine, wispy appearance, the admittedly poor pictures, and the not-so-gentle landing could account for what you see. Always try for the least complicated solution that will fit the available data. Don't assume that the hoofbeats over the horizon are wildebeast if you're in North America.
