It's all about power. What can be controlled in a utility can be wielded in anger. The hand on the button might not be sane.
The following words come to mind regarding fusion power. Some of you may be old enough to remember Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Younger folks can ask their grand/parents about the sixties.

Shrouded in a mushroom cloud of death

of hellish heat and leaves a smear of ash

And the sun has disappeared"I realize those words were penned in response to "conventional" nuclear weapons, fission devices. I think as a species humans are not yet sufficiently mature to safely handle the sun in a bucket.
Which would you rather hold in your hand, a plutonium power rod, or a cup of plasma? The fourth state of matter is plasma, for the uninitiated.
