The idea that any part of the President's new space policy was driven by China is false. When China put their first astronaut in orbit recently and announced plans to send an *unmanned* robotic lander to the moon, the media (always on the look out for good headlines, whether they fit the facts or not) immediately became populated with articles about "The New Space Race." The historical analogy with the U.S. and the Soviets in the 60's is an easy leap but it simply does not apply.
