The Bush family have always supported the Space Administration. Having NASA partially based in Houston is a source of pride for Texans in particular and Southerners in general (What with Florida and Alabama).
No bitterness taken from anyone here, although I really do wish people on this message board would focus more on the science possibilities of such an endeavor and less on the politics of it.
Thirsting for discussions of science, and not the latest political posturing, is why I came here in the first place.
