I agree that people have a hard time thinking about the long term. We are not trained that way - the focusing on the individual/self from consumerism to salvation - all are wrapped up in the navel staring pit of selfish interest.

Carl Sagan in his book "Contact" made an excellent statement/accessment based from an alien species looking at humanity (not a direct quote)
Humans have problems with History Management. They need to develop better tools to direct their future.

sorry Mr. Sagan for slaughtering your words. It has been a few years since I read it.
