I think you've got a pretty good handle on the issue even if the actual numbers vary.
Those that find jingos and slogans more important than reasoned fact ... those that call themselves "conservative" while acting in a manner that is antithetical to that claim ... will undoubtedly try to dismiss the concern.
Fact is humans don't put fire extinguishers in buidings until after there are fires. The biology of our brains somehow refuses to acknowledge problems that may inconvenience us until we reach a pain threshhold. So far, with respect to the dangers presented to everything from our way-of-life to our very survival have yet to reach that level of pain. So nothing is going to happen.
Until something ugly happens. And even then it will have to happen to a first world country populated with white people.
