Actually I teach at a major research university. So when I read what you wrote which is:
" and i am to get in contact with someone who is doing research on rasing crack babies"
That does not communicate, at least to any reasonable person, that you want "views from other people." It communicates a specific need to speak with someone performing research in the field.
Hopefully you are also taking a creative writing class. There ... such antics ... will be more readily appreciated.
