How is this then?
Any object of sufficient mass to draw itself into a sphere and maintain a relatively stable primary orbit around its star/sun
(this leaves out moons while still recognizing that planets exert some gravitational influence over each other)
can be considered a planet.Just a thought to toss into the debate.
