There is considerable opposition to GM food in the UK. But after a lacklustre speech by Tony Blair the Goverment got their foot in the door by
narrowly voting to grow a GM Maize to be used for cattle feed only, not the type for human consumption. In addition should there be any cross field contamination, the company supplying the seed and the farmer who grows it will be equally held liable for compensation.
A litigation problem that GM advocates will want to reverse.
I think its unlikely that GM Corn for humans will be on sale before 2009 if at all, as still more safety/health tests are to be conducted.
