That's the prevailing knowledge so far. And so the skepticism. Then again, we don't know at this point how much or little genetic code these things require. If it turns out that nonobes are for real self sustained living organisms (unlike viruses, read the linked article http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,3840998,00.html) it would explain an awful lot and advance our knowledge considerably.
Hmmm... I think I'm in a really good mood today!
Now where's the other shoe?
