are stable elements eternal ?

(24.4.91.65)I am working on phisophical work on the topic of meaning of life.
I have read a lot on the atom, radio activity and the underlying logic beyind the period table.However, I am not sure I grasp the concept of stable element and how it is possible to have elements that do not change over time. How can tehy remain the same while they probably need energy to maintain their integrity. Are stable elements eternal once they have been produced by the stars if they do not interact with other elements ?
