I did part of my education at New Mexico State University where Clyde W. Tombaugh worked. Didn't realize his wife's name was Charlene.

Charon was the Fellow who owned the ferry over the river Styx, or Lethe, I forget which. You had to cross the river to get to the Elysian Fields. If you died and nobody put coins over your eyes to pay the fee for the ferry, you had to swim the river, and in so doing, lose all memory of your past life, if I recall right. Charon was in effect the gatekeeper for Hades, if you can envision the ferry being a form of gated batch entry.

I don't recall quite where Cerberus, the three-headed hound of Hell, quite fit into all this. Was it before the ferry, or after the Elysian Fields? Or another portal entirely?
